Smarty Mobile Can't Handle February
01 Mar 2026I woke up this morning to find my Smarty Mobile account has been paused. No warning, no notification beforehand — just a suspended service.
I have never missed a payment. My billing date is the 30th of each month, and I’ve always had sufficient funds available. The problem? February 2026 only has 28 days, so there was no 30th of February for Smarty to attempt to take my payment. Rather than billing me on the 28th, or the 1st of March, or indeed any day at all, they simply didn’t try to collect payment and then paused my account for non-payment.
Let me repeat that: they paused my account because they failed to take a payment that they never attempted to collect.
This is a stunning bit of incompetence. Every subscription service in the world has to deal with months of varying length. If your billing date is the 31st, services will typically charge you on the last day of shorter months. This is not a new problem. February has been shorter than 30 days for quite some time now.
The fact that Smarty’s billing system apparently cannot handle a month with fewer than 30 days is baffling. Even more baffling is that their response to their own system failing to take payment is to punish the customer by pausing their account.
If you’re considering Smarty Mobile and your billing date falls on the 29th, 30th, or 31st — be warned, you might wake up with no mobile service every February through no fault of your own.
